Kara Elyse is an interdisciplinary artist and journalist possessing multifaceted experience as a writer, photographer, creative director, producer and more. She earned a bachelor’s from the University of Pittsburgh in Interdisciplinary Studies: Multi-Media Broadcasting, a self-designed major with concentrations in business and music. She obtained her master’s from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied photojournalism and digital media.
Her written and photographic work has appeared in Ms. Magazine, Austin Woman Magazine, Medium and beyond. She is also published as a model and content manager. In 2022, she was selected by the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation to join a talented team of writers drawn from national networks to share stories of Pittsburgh’s 16 Cultural Treasures Heinz Endowments Initiative. After failing to see diversity in the content creation industry, she launched Mindful Media to change the narrative of who is chosen for this work.
Kara has directed and produced and directed projects for several institutions of higher learning included the University of Pittsburgh's Racial Equity Consciousness Institute. In 2023, the Ascension Health “Care for All” campaign she and Mindful Media produced received a Telly Award.
An advocate for equity, people, and the planet, she pursues projects and brands that champion similar ideals and innovation and leans into work that amplifies the voices and experiences of historically overlooked people and communities.
